The new floating dock in SSN takes shape

Szczecińska Shipyard "Wulkan" launched module no. 2 of the new floating dock on April 19. This is an important milestone in the implementation of the investment, which after years of failure has clearly accelerated and entered the stage of visible effects. In the following days, the yard is expected to proceed to launching module No 1.

The two-day operation is a clear signal that the investment has gained real momentum after years of problems. After construction, it will be the largest dock floating in the Baltic Sea basin. For Szczecin and Western Pomerania This means not only an important infrastructure project, but also strengthening the potential of the shipbuilding industry in the region.

Launching was divided into stages

Due to the enormous size of the unit, the whole launching process was divided into three stages. According to the Shipbuilding Communication, the first two modules are to be launched in April and the last one after the construction. Now on the water there is module No. 2, and in the following days SSN "Wulkan" is to proceed to launching module No. 1.

The water deposition operation of such a large structure requires very precise coordination of technical and logistical activities. Several maritime companies are involved in the project, both from the state and private sectors.

Important milestone for the whole investment

The yard emphasizes that successful launching of the first part of the dock confirms the effectiveness of the adopted solutions and the construction model implemented by plant.

We are consistently implementing an investment which is of great importance for both the future of our shipyard and the entire maritime sector in Szczecin. Thanks to the good coordination of the work of professionals in our shipyard and many cooperating companies, we closed the next big stage of this project. It can be said that today the dock took on a real form, and its first module was safely launched.

Full readiness in 2027

The new dock will be the largest unit of this type in the Baltic Sea region. Implementation of this investment is intended to strengthen potential Szczecin shipyard and the position of Szczecin as one of the key maritime economic centres in northern Europe.

Although construction has been going on for many years, the last year's work has clearly accelerated. According to the current timetable, the fully functional dock is to be completed by mid-2027.
