Last Tariq Corvette (F 283) of the Babur type launched

On 2 August, at the Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works (KWEW) shipyard in Karachi, the Tariq Corvette (F 283) type Babur (PN MILGEM), was solemnly launched. This modern unit, designed specifically for the naval forces of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, attracted the attention of high-ranking representatives from both Pakistan and Turkey, which underlines its strategic importance for the Pakistani Navy.

Although based on the Turkish Ada-type corvette design, the Tariq corvette was adapted to the specifications and requirements of the Pakistani Navy. It is characterized by enlarged hull dimensions measuring 109.8 x 14.8 x 4.05 m and greater buoyancy – 2888 tons. Compared, Turkish Corvettes type Ada have dimensions of 99.56 x 14.4 x 3.9 m and displacement of 2400 tons.

But it's not the only difference. Pakistani units, despite numerous similarities to Turkish counterparts, are introducing weapons innovation. Instead of Chinese HHQ-16 anti-aircraft missiles, modern Albatros NG missiles were selected, making Pakistani corvettes the first users of the marine version of this weapon.

Korweta Tariq will be equipped with innovative weapons, including the Turkish defence system Gökdeniz. Outside Turkey, Pakistan will become a pioneer in using this system. The attack will be possible with national Harbach missiles. Corvette electronics is approaching Ada unit standards, using modern Thales Smart-S Mk2 radar and specialized optoelectronic systems. Havelsan Advent is the central coordinating point of the systems aboard the corvette.

Korweta Tariq is not only evidence of Pakistan's rising naval power, but also a symbol of international cooperation in the field of arms. Cooperation with Turkey, seen in the technological and structural elements of the unit, demonstrates the global nature of modern warship production. This partnership is key to understanding how countries can join forces to achieve higher quality and efficiency of their fleets.

The introduction of Tariq corvette to service in the Pakistani Navy is another step in the modernization of Pakistani naval forces. Not only strengthens the naval position in the region, but also increases its defence and operational capabilities.
