During the Combined Naval Event 2026, the Turkish Navy confirmed that a prototype domestic aircraft carrier MUGEM to be transferred to the fleet in 2032. According to Naval News, the schedule assumes launching the ship from 2027 to 2028.

The MUGEM, or Milli Uçak Gemisi – a National Aeroplane – is to be the largest ship in Turkish naval history. Its buoyancy is expected to be approximately 60,000 tons, a length of 285 m, a width of 72 m, and a range of 10,000 nautical miles. The drive is designed to provide a COGAG system with four LM2500 gas turbines to reach speeds of more than 25 knots.

On board the future carrier MUGEM to operate both manned and unmanned aircraft. Turkey builds an ocean fleet

MUGEM is not created in vacuum. In parallel, the HSHM (Hava Savunma Harbi Muhribi) type TF-2000 anti-aircraft defense destroyer is under construction in Turkish shipbuilding facilities and submarine MİLDEN. These three ship programs together form something far more serious than the export catalogue of the defence industry. It's the destruction of the future ocean fleet.

For Ankara, the sea becomes a space of competition for influences, raw materials, shipping routes and the security of its own interests. Turkey looks at Russia in the Black Sea, Greece and Cyprus in the eastern Mediterranean, the Middle East, Africa and the Indo-Pacific. It will not compete with China like the United States – a fleet of global airport groups and a network of bases scattered around the world. It will do so in Turkish: in stages, its own industry, drones, medium-sized ships and increasing operational autonomy.

This is why MUGEM is more than the first Turkish aircraft carrier. It is a floating signal that Ankara wants to be a "full mouth" of the sea: not only to guard its own straits and coasts, but also to steer marine forces Where her business begins.

The important thing is not that Turkey will show the world the possibilities of its shipyards. The most important thing is that Russia has a new naval power, capable of projecting forces far beyond its own coast.
