Turkish Polish Navy will receive new fuel tankers

The contract for four units was concluded between the defense industry board of Savunma Sanayii Başkanlığı (SSB) and the consortium of Turkish shipyards Özata and Desan.

The agreement is the result of the announced in December 2020, proceedings for the supply of port and red tankers intended to supply fuel to type rocket ships: YıldızDoğanRüzgar and Kilic. The victory of Özata and Desan was in line with the scheme's assumptions allowing participation in the proceedings of Turkish operators only. Moreover, 80% of the contract value is to come from Turkish producers.

The SSB order concerns the construction of 2 units and options for building another pair. New tankers are expected to have a range of 500 nautical miles, a speed of 15 knots, an autonomy of 3 days and a capacity to supply two ships simultaneously. In addition to fuel Tankers shall supply ships with fresh water to carry at least 35 tonnes.

The construction of units of this kind in its own shipyards is a permanent element of the Turkish defence policy, emphasising the implementation of as much as possible supplies to the armed forces by the indigenous defence industry.
