Incident off the coast of Iran
Published in recent hours recordings and photographs on the network indicate a hit on an Iranian missile ship operating near the port of Bandar Lengeh on the southern coast of Iran. On the available materials, the unit is seen with dense smoke, and the fire covers the middle and stern part of the ship.
At this stage, there is no official position by the Iranian authorities on the nature of the incident and possible crew losses. However, visual analysis suggests that the ship may have been severely damaged.
According to available information, the unit was hit during armed action by United States forces in the region. All indicates that the damaged ship belongs to the latest series of rocket corvettes type Shahid Soleimani, in the service of the naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Rocket corvettes of the type Shahid Soleimani
Rocket corvettes of the type Shahid Soleimani are among the latest units entered into service in the Marine Corps of Islamic Revolution Guards. The first of them entered service in 2022.
Ships of this series stand out for an unusual hull design. A catamaran-like hull was used – two narrow hulls connected by a common platform. This solution increases the stability of the unit at high speeds and provides a larger area of the deck intended for weapons and equipment.
According to the available data, the units of this series are approximately 65 metres long and a full displacement of 600 tonnes. The drive consists of four diesel engines working with water-stream propulsors, which allows to reach a speed exceeding 30 knots.
The weapon includes anti-ship missiles, small-caliber artillery, and systems designed to combat aerial assault measures. The structure of the superstructure also included vertical rocket launchers. On the stern of the corvet is a helicopter landing ground and a mission deck designed for small units shock.
Tensions in the Ormuz Strait
Information on the hit of the unit in the Bandar Lengeh region appears during the rising tension in the Gulf region. For more than a week, or since the beginning of the operation, reports of further hits on Iranian military infrastructure and port facilities have been reported almost daily.
At this stage, there is no clear confirmation that the ship visible on the recordings sank or was only severely damaged.
But one thing is certain. Although the United States Congress has not formally declared war, and actions are referred to as Operation "Epicka Furia", in practice we are dealing with a full-scale armed conflict. As in the case of Russian aggression four years ago, the reality of the battlefield is becoming increasingly blurred with the language of official messages.
