URE granted Baltic Power wind farm the right to cover negative balance

The President of the Energy Regulatory Office (URE) examined the application of Baltic Power in the framework of the so-called. The first phase of support and issued to the company, with 51% of shares owned by PKN Orlen, the decision to grant the right to cover a negative balance for electricity produced in a offshore wind farm up to 1.2 GW, was communicated to the Authority.
The decision for Baltic Power is the sixth to be taken by the President of ERO on granting the right to cover a negative balance for electricity produced in offshore wind farms (IMF), stressed.
The settlement concerns the Baltic Power offshore wind farm design with an installed electrical capacity of 1197 MW.
In addition, in April and May this year, the President of the ERO examined a total of five proposals for projects: IMF Baltic II with 720 MW, IMF Baltic III with 720 MW, Baltica-2 Wind Power Plant with 1498 MW, Baltica-3 Wind Power Plant with 1045 MW and Baltic Trade and Invest with 350 MW, are listed.
‘In the first phase of the system, support shall be granted by administrative decision of the President of the ERO and may cover offshore wind farms with a total installed capacity of up to 5.9 GW. The necessary condition for receiving support will be further confirmation by the European Commission of the compatibility with the internal market of the State aid granted to the manufacturer for the offshore project," the Communication states.
The development of offshore wind power PKN Orlen is carried out through Baltic Power, which holds a concession for the construction of wind farms with a maximum total capacity of 1.2 GW. The project is implemented in partnership with the Canadian company Northland Power, which will eventually cover 49% of the project's shares. The investment area, with a total area of about 131 km2, is located about 23 km north of the Baltic Sea coastline, at the heights of Choczev and Łeba.
