First flag lift ceremony on tug H-2 Mieszko

On Friday, August 14, there was a ceremony of first flaglifting on the H-2 Mieszko tugboat. In accordance with the order of the Commander General of the Armed Forces to first raise the flag of naval auxiliary units, on the Mieszko tug, with the H-2 side number, the flag was solemnly raised. ‘I am handing you the flag of MW auxiliary units for the H-2 tugboat. Let the unit wear it with honour, and the crew serve it faithfully" – in these words the commander of the 3rd Fleet Ships – Rear Admiral Mirosław Jurkowlaniec turned to the tugboat commander, Mar. Artur Ciereszko. Thus the unit was incorporated into the Navy forces. From now on, Mieszko's tugboat serves in the 3rd Fleet of Ships in the Squadron of Support Ships.
Towboat H-2 Mieszko proj. B 860/3 is the third of a series of six new tugboats built for the Polish Navy. It was designed and built at Shipbuilding S.A. Shipbuilding shipyard in Gdańsk.
The contract for the construction of new tugboats was signed in June 2017, and the ceremony of launching and baptism of the H-2 Mieszko tugboat took place on July 8, 2019. The godmother of the unit was Ms. Magdalena Sniadecka, director of the Vice Admiral Joseph Unrug Elementary School in the Great Forests. The tugboat left the shipyard on 13 July 2020 after the sea trials were completed and the donation and reception protocol was signed. Thus, from 14 July this year, its home port is Gdynia.

The tugs are designed to: combat protection and logistics support at sea and in ports, perform technical evacuation activities, support rescue operations, transport of persons and supplies, neutralize pollution, take from water dangerous materials. The haulage of towing boats shall be more than 35 t.
