U.S. Coast Guard provides water for the drought-stricken island in the Pacific

On Friday, the crew of the boat Oliver Berry of the US Coast Guard provided assistance to the island of Kiritimati, due to the extreme drought there.
US Coast Guard provided much needed assistance providing drinking water on Kiritimati after the Republic of Kiribati declared a national emergency. U.S. Coast Guard crew (WPC-1124) Oliver Berry carried out a supply of drinking water, working with UNICEF representatives to support local residents under national emergency conditions while maintaining strict COVID-19 precautions.
In addition to providing humanitarian aid, the crew of Oliver Berry supported Kiribati's efforts to enforce maritime law, ensuring order in the exclusive economic zone of Kiribati (EEZ) to stop illegal, unregulated and unreported fishing, support the security of Kiribati resources and strengthen the region's order services.
Oliver Berry is one of the FRC USCG type boats equipped with advanced command and reconnaissance systems. At 47 m long, units of this type reach a speed of over 28 knots and a range of 2,500 nautical miles and a five-day autonomy.
