USNS Comfort gets the necessary equipment

The boy, who is Comfort’s first patient as part of Operation Unified Response: Haiti, suggested injury to his paler and a hip fraction caused in conjunction with a powerful earthquake that struck the Carribean nation of Haiti Jan 12. The boy is currently in the ICU board Comfort in stable condition. The Navy has 11 ships on station in the Vicinity of Haiti supporting the host nation with approximately 11,000 military personnel supporting the mission. The equipment provided included personal protective equipment and air purifiers that are necessary to protect the USNS Comfort medical unit.

"The equipment provided provides an additional level of protection for our medical care team, which is the most susceptible to infection," said kmdr Todd Morris, director of the medical services department. "This is a full-face mask that provides complete respiratory insulation from the surrounding environment, with a tube connected to a filtration system worn on the bar" - he added.

The acquisition of these protective devices is another way, in what USNS vessel Comfort ensure that the mission can be accomplished while protecting patients and crew. The necessary equipment was provided by the MH-60S Seahawk helicopter.

"Safety of patients and crew aboard USNS Comfort is our top priority". "We are taking precautions on full personal protective equipment as instructed," said Captain Joseph O'Brien, Mission Commander, Task Force New York City

USNS Comfort hospital ship takes care of patients after injuries, accidents and in need of intensive medical care, regardless of their status as COVID-19 virus. Comfort collaborates with Javits Medical Station in New York City as an integrated medical care system that relieves hospitals in New York City, thereby supporting the civil authorities of the U.S. North Command in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
