More than 5 000 tonnes of waste were detected in Gdynia Port

The Pomeranian National Tax Administration (KAS) retained an illegal shipment of approximately 5.2 thousand tonnes of waste contained in 214 containers which went to the Gdynia seaport from Turkey – announced press spokesperson KAS Anita Wielanek on Wednesday.
"The audit of 214 containers involving Provincial Inspectors of Environmental Protection in Gdańsk detected about 5.2 thousand tonnes of waste in the form of soil, soil and stones. According to transport declarations, plant seeds were to be placed in containers," Wielanek informed.
She noted that the cargo was found in the EU in violation of the rules on international shipment of waste. Imports of such waste require prior notification and approval of the Chief Environmental Protection Officer.
"Pomeranian Customs and Tax Office in Gdynia has submitted a notification to the Chief Inspector of Environmental Protection in Warsaw about illegal shipment of waste. Until the end of the investigation, waste will remain under customs supervision. The investigation in the case is also conducted by the District Prosecutor's Office in Gdynia", added the spokesman for KAS.
