The United Kingdom hosted NATO specialists as part of the MASSEVEX submarine rescue crew exercises

In the Royal Navy base in Clyde, Scotland, there were exercises for specialists from France, Norway and the United Kingdom, concerning the NATO Submarine Rescue System (NSRS). Over 110 people attended the seven-day event, including submarines, divers, medics and staff from Babcock.
The NSRS system is jointly operated by the United Kingdom, Norway and France and consists of three components: a remote-controlled intervention vehicle (IROV), an underwater rescue vehicle (SRV) and a pressure transfer system (TUP). The entire NSRS is located at Clyde naval base.
Rapid response time is essential for saving lives, and the system is prepared to transport anywhere in the world within 72 hours. This ability is difficult to control and it is therefore important to conduct frequent exercises in the field of reaction speed.

The annual MESSEVEX exercise brings together all partner countries to test the performance of the system and provides operational, medical, divers and underwater equipment operators with the opportunity to meet and exchange knowledge and experience in order to increase their common capabilities and effectiveness.
– For the first time I participate in exercises on this scale and it is a good experience, training with representatives of different nations is an excellent way to share knowledge and learn from the experiences of others. I look forward to engaging in similar exercises in the future," said Thomas Maître of the French Navy.

In addition to participants from partner countries, US Navy medical officers also took part in the exercises as observers. Their presence is valuable because the United States has its own submarine rescue systems and there is a mutual agreement that each rescue system will provide support to the other party if necessary.
– NATO's submarine rescue system is a unique, three-national venture with considerable potential. It is a great pleasure for me to be an operational officer in this world's leading rescue system," said Commander Chris Baldwin.
