High level of security in ports in Szczecin and Świnoujście

Verification commissions appointed by the Director of the Maritime Office in Szczecin and the Provincial Commandant of the Police have completed checks on the level of security of port facilities administered by the Board of Maritime Ports of Szczecin and Świnoujście S.A.. Annual audits resulting from the implementation of the provisions of the Act of 4 September 2008 on the protection of shipping and seaports and the ISPS Code, this year were of a special nature resulting from the state of emergency.

The audit confirmed the high level of involvement of Port Protection Officers and security services in ensuring the safety of port workers in Szczecin and Świnoujście and ship crew members. It also showed up-to-date emergency procedures, including in the event of the Covid-19 epidemic. All port facilities received positive assessments, giving rise to the renewal of security certificates for the next year, or "Conformity Certificates".

The verification commissions also noted further progress in the level of technical equipment for security services. The Port Security Department and the Information Technology Department of ZMPSiŚ S.A. completed in 2020 the installation of an electronic system for the registration of persons and vehicles entering the ports in Szczecin and Świnoujście. The system, which is called "Brama", enables the introduction and electronic recording of persons and vehicles, the issuing of electronic passes and the tracking of vehicles by users.

The Management Board of the Sea Ports Szczecin and Świnoujście S.A., using the most modern technologies, has consistently implemented a program of modernization of port security under the motto "Smart Protection". This implies replacing or supplementing physical protection with technical protection measures. The programme provides, inter alia, for the use of an unmanned aircraft fleet (drones) with the construction of an anti-drone system for monitoring, detecting and eliminating unwanted unmanned aircraft, as well as for the construction of an intruder detection and detection system using an interferometer supplemented by thermal imaging cameras. The existing port video surveillance system will be expanded and modernised and the security services will receive mobile video surveillance kits. It is also assumed to rebuild all port entrances and replace permanent security posts with electronic access systems.
