Personnel Changes in the Key Maritime Institutions of Poland: Revocations of the Governing PZB and the "Grifia" Shipyard

Last week brought two changes in the maritime sector of Poland, which resulted from last year's parliamentary elections. In key institutions such as the Polish Baltic Shipping and the Marine Shiprepair Yard "Grifia", the presidents – Andrzej Madejski and Krzysztof Zaremba – were dismissed. These decisions, which reflect political shuffle, announce the beginning of deeper changes in the management of strategic segments of the maritime industry of our country.

Andrzej Madejski, who has led Polish Baltic Shipping since April 2021, has had a rich career in the maritime sector. His activities were focused on modernisation of the fleet and expansion to new markets. Prior to taking his position in PZB, Madejski served as President of the Polish Register of Ships for five years, where he was famous for effective restructuring and introduction of new safety standards.

According to the Vice-President of the Supervisory Board of Polish Baltic Shipping, Piotr Szczygielski, in an interview with Polish Radio Koszalin, the decision to dismiss Andrzej Madejski from the position of president of the company resulted from differences in the vision of its development. Temporaryly, the duties of the president of PŻB were assumed by Bartłomiej Mroczkowski, a lawyer from the Office of the Marshal of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, appointed by the Supervisory Board.

Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Arkadiusz Marchewka reported on the X platform significant staff changes in the Marine Shiprepair Yard "Grifia" in Szczecin. President Krzysztof Zaremba, a figure known for his activity on the Polish political stage, was recalled. Zaremba, who had experience in both the Sejm and the Senate, was involved in the activities of two major political parties in Poland – Civic Platform and Law and Justice. In his position as president of the "Griffy", which he held since February 2020, he focused on improving the operational efficiency of the yard and on expanding its services. Furthermore, Margaret Jacina-Witt was also recalled from the yard's supervisory board.

These appeals, following parliamentary elections, can be seen as part of a broader policy strategy to reorganise and strengthen governance in strategic maritime sectors. These changes not only influence the direction of development of individual institutions, but also shed light on political and economic dynamics in Poland, stressing the importance of the maritime sector as a key element of the national economy.

In the face of these changes, both the Polish Baltic Shipping and the Marine Shiprepair Yard "Grifia" face the challenge of adapting to new realities and continuing their activities in the changing political and economic landscape.
